Product Notes

In 2009, Death Polka made it's fast and intense debut with "Who Cares?" by Ando and the Jolly Barrels. After that, Ando Ehlers released his first solo album "Death Polka Spear!" in 2011, which was dark and introspective. Now comes the third installment in the Death Polka saga "All Aboard the Garbage Barge!" In this twelve track collection, Ando Ehlers takes the intensity of his music to a whole new level. The punk and metal influences that Ehlers is known to cite as sources of inspiration are heard loud and clear in this release, particularly in songs like "Haldol Fairytale" and "Wanderer". Once the music starts, the accordion, drums and vocals are wailing with a performance that has been described as that of "a rabid existential dog." The lyrics are dark and communicate a struggle to maintain in a sea of hopelessness. You can't help but tap your foot; you can't help but agree with some of the morbid points that are made in these numbers. Sarcasm abounds in the lighter-hearted tracks, with tunes like "I Love You" communicating a death wish via A Capella vocals and clapping. "Don't Touch Me" is a heartfelt letter written to an ex-lover, calling them a snake and a scumbag. Played slowly, spoken clearly and written with a bitter tongue, these songs will stir the warmth of your emotion. You'll be sure to call your ex and let him or her know just how great of a person you really think they are. A desperate plea for the means to survive lies in the album's final track, "Rust Belt Scream"; a song that encapsulates the overwhelming depression and displacement of the Midwest states during the auto-collapse. Jobless, homeless, hungry and stripped of your pride, you will feel the anguish that those states lived through when their culture shifted from working and content to starving at the back of the unemployment line. If you want fast and articulate accordion, sorrowful and comedic ukulele, raging drums and theatrical vocals then this surely is the album for you. Death Polka has come a long way since 2009, with Ando Ehlers performing over 200 shows in tours throughout the United States. The music won't be slowing down any time soon. Ando Ehlers is constantly performing, writing new music and plotting new vulgar/creative stage antics. Grab this album, grab a drink and get ready to hear Lawrence Welk's worst nightmare.
