Product Notes

'Liminalondon' is a "psychogeographical" tour of the UK's Capital city, featuring ten instrumental tracks that interweave "found-sounds" with ambient and left-field electronica, acoustic and digital beats and contemporary classical minimalism. The field recordings and conversations on the album were captured spontaneously by Dai Watts in a variety of London locations, while the music was largely written on a laptop and MIDI keyboard at the Royal Festival Hall on the banks of the River Thames, before being recorded and mixed at The Shed, Dai's studio in North London. Dai Watts plays acoustic and electric pianos, flute, acoustic and electric guitars, synths, electric bass and all programming on the album; Al Twist plays electric bass on 'Return of the Unreliable Narrator'. Rough Trade review: Over the past 2 years North London based Dai Watts has been wandering the capital capturing symbolic moments of sound at significant geographical points and turning the results into compositions. Sensitive to the environment of each captured recording, the resulting works blend together to make a richly diverse and intelligently constructed concept album. The pieces veer from electroacoustic aural vignettes to elaborately unfolding electronic works. As a whole it offers a distinctive and memorable modern twist on what London living sounds like today. The Siren Sound review: '10 out of 10. Classical-ambient at it's finest.... one of the most beautiful 2014 ambient albums I've come across' Dai Watts' previous release 'Train Tracks and Travelogues Vol.2' depicted a journey across Mediterranean Europe and North Africa by rail and sea, and was described by 'The Siren Sound' as '...a beautiful listen, quite different form the rest, and a unique blend in it's way'. As with 'Liminalondon', the album combined melodic fragments, left-field arrangements, beat-based grooves and piano/orchestral minimalism, interwoven with audio and field recordings to create over fifty minutes of continuous music.
