Evën Sh'siyah blends original music with lyrics taken from an array of classic Jewish texts and their own English lyrics. The band's musical influences are eclectic: folk, rock, Mid-Eastern, and jazz. The band has integrated these genres creating a cohesive and unique musical soundscape of it's own. They have been playing together for over fifteen years and released three CDs, '...through your gates, Jerusalem', 'The Way Jews Rock', and 'Wake Up'. Their songs have enjoyed radio airplay here in the U.S., as well as in Israel and Europe. They have performed internationally. This CD contains the immensely popular electric version of Hatikvah. Evën Sh'siyah is composed of seven musicians from Chicago: Elisha Prero (guitar), David Margulis (bass), Ely Cooper (guitar), Mitch Jacoby (guitar), Matt Kanter (drums), Zev Goldberg (percussion), and Mark Freedman (keyboards). Evën Sh'siyah is Hebrew for 'foundation stone.' According to Jewish tradition, the original element of all Creation was this primordial stone, from which the entire world came into existence.
