Product Notes

To describe Nutty's eclectic 'treatments' of classic rock tunes as cover songs is accurate, but an oversimplification. In any given Nutty tune, you might find layers of classic jazz, cocktail jazz, crime jazz, TV and movie themes or any other musical reference that makes sense (to them). Each tune might well be called a musical cocktail, as it mixes varied ingredients to come up with a final product that tastes sweet, goes down easy, but packs a musical wallop. Their second album, Jettsetter Jazz - The Persuasive Sounds of Nutty, features the following menu of Jetsetter Jazz Cocktails: Purple Panther - The "Pink Panther" sashays through "Purple Haze" in this inadvertantly cosmic collaboration between Hendrix and Mancini. That colorful cat is the most! Down, dirty and dry. Manteca In A Bottle - One of Dizzy Gillespie's greatest Latin big band gems influences the Police hit "Message In A Bottle"...right here on Gilligan's Island! Where's the lime and the coconut? Tired Of Strollin' - A unique blend of Mingus' "Strollin'" and the Kinks' "Tired Of Waiting For You" shaken, poured into a chilled glass. Goes down smooth. The Impossible Past - Tull's tune is seamlessly layered over Lalo Schifrin's "Mission Impossible" soundtrack, with a sudden 9-bar outburst of Zeppelin's "Four Sticks" chasin' the piano solo just to see if you're payin' attention. Crime/spy jazz on the rocks! Pleasant Valley Monkday - Yes, Thelonious was the fifth Monkee, as evidenced here in this 'Pre-fab Four' tune chock full of Monk snippets. Straight, no chaser. Five Nights - Just when you think you're going to "Take Five", you're swept into "Nights In White Satin". Moody Blues in 5/4 time, with a 3/4 variation on Joe Morello's famed drum solo and a nutty poetic finish. Frankenmunster - It's simple: "Frankenstein" meets the Munsters. And there are lyrics that Edgar Winter didn't even know about. Put this one in a tumbler, then guzzle! Rumba With The Devil - From the Latin side of Nutty is this 2-song Van Halen medley, with a cha-cha beat and a little "Sway" to bridge the two numbers together, featuring a manic horn version of the intro guitar riff on "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" that'll make you flip. Saucy, spicy and 150 proof! Same Old Song And Scat - This concoction is pure Aerosmith on bop, flaunting solos, trades and scattin' at a madman's pace. This one's got the juice, and it's shaken and stirred. Cinnamon Doll - Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl" all dolled up in Duke Ellington "Satin...". Slow and sassy with a sucker punch reminiscent of a good 21 year old scotch. Hello Dolly Dagger - An action-packed Hendrix number that smashes head-on into the "Mannix" tv theme at half time and ends in a vocal scat duel with the other instruments at the climactic finish. Add a jigger of Jimmy Smith and a splash of Satchmo and you've got a cocktail with a mighty kick! Baker's Bread - A soft, smoky slice of Bread's "Guitar Man", with the ghost of Chet Baker blowin' "My Funny Valentine" in the shadows of the spotlight. This one's a thoughtful ballad meant to be sipped. As with any feast (or binge), enjoy and indulge, but be careful . . .
