Product Notes

Baritone Mark Diamond spent two years training in the Houston Grand Opera Studio after winning first prize in HGO's 2011 Eleanor McCollum Competition Concert of Arias. As an HGO Studio artist, he sang performances of Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Marcello in La bohème, as well as the Marquis d'Obigny in La traviata. He has since returned to HGO as a guest artist to sing Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm in A Little Night Music. Other credits include Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia with San Francisco Opera's Merola Program, Top in The Tender Land at the Glimmerglass Festival, and the baritone soloist in Handel's Messiah in his Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra debut. Mr. Diamond was twice a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and was awarded second prize in the Charles A. Lynam Competition in North Carolina. Future engagements include debuts with the French opera theaters of Limoges, Caen, and Reims; Ars Lyrica of Houston; and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Patrick Harvey joined the music staff of Houston Grand Opera in the fall of 2013 after two seasons as an HGO Studio artist. During his time in the Studio, he assisted in the musical preparation of various productions, and he also made his HGO stage debut in the role of Jake, the pianist in Show Boat. He has served on the music staff of The Santa Fe Opera since the summer of 2012, where among other things he assisted in preparing the premieres of Theodore Morrison's Oscar and Huang Ruo's Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Prior to his time in Houston and Santa Fe, he worked in Knoxville, Tennessee, as a faculty coach at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and as rehearsal pianist at Knoxville Opera. Mr. Harvey holds a master of music degree from the University of Michigan where he studied collaborative piano with Martin Katz. He attributes much of his work on this recording to the abilities he developed growing up as a church pianist in his hometown of Brunswick, Georgia. Mr. Harvey dedicates his arrangement of "Amazing Grace" to the memory of his grandmother, who was herself an amazing "Grace."
